Gemini is getting a new feature in the Gmail app that will allow users to quickly respond to emails with the power of artificial intelligence (AI). Called Smart Text Replies, this feature allows users to respond to incoming emails with detailed replies. Artificial intelligence can process email content and create text responses. It’s worth noting that the Simple Answers feature was first introduced in 2017, but it only produces one-line short answers. This feature is only available to Google workspace users, and free users of the platform won’t see it.
Gmail Gemini Gets Smart Text Smart Reply
Answering emails can be time-consuming, especially when people receive a lot of them every day. Google first released a solution to the Simple Reply problem in 2017 that used machine learning to show three options for responding to an email. However, these are short line responses without much information for the user to add.
In a blog post Thursday, the Mountain View tech giant announced Smart Text Responses, a feature upgrade from 2017. It uses Google’s original Gemini AI models to generate in the intelligent responses that users see when they enter the email page (Gemini in Gmail App).
After starting an answer, users will see some answer suggestions appear at the bottom of the screen. Users will see the first words of the title and content. Once selected, the AI will create a complete email response that can be several pages long with all the information the sender is looking for. This message can be modified to add additional information or be sent.
This feature is available to Google workspace users with Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium devices. This feature is also available to users with a Google One AI Premium subscription. In particular, this is an app-based feature, available on Android and iOS.
