Gemini Nano – Google’s smallest artificial intelligence (AI) model from the Gemini family to date – has been rolled out to all Android manufacturers. The AI model has already come to power in Google’s first apps, such as Google Messages and Pixel Recorder, on compatible Pixel smartphones and the Galaxy S24 series. But with this extension, third-party applications can use the model’s capabilities. Meanwhile, Gemini will let users share photos from other apps using the Android share tab.
Gemini Nano Introduced to All Android App Developers
In 2023, the Mountain View-based tech giant introduced Gemini Nano as the smallest voice model from the Gemini AI model more. It is designed to perform AI tasks on the device. So far, it has been used to power the AI features in the newer Pixel phones and the Galaxy S24 series in Google’s original apps.
The changes come as the company has announced that the AI model will be available to Android app developers who can integrate Gemini Nano features into their apps with the AI Edge SDK via AICore. Google said that developers will initially access text messages on the Pixel 9 series smartphones. However, support for other devices and methods will be added in the future.
Share photos from Android in the Gemini app
Android Authority says that Gemini version 1.0.668480831 can share photos in the Gallery app or in a third-party app with Gemini using the Android Share tab. This feature is useful, especially if you have a lot of photos stored on the device, (Gemini Nano Access).
This allows users to find the image in the app where they found it and send it directly to Gemini. After sharing, they can open the app and add a request for it. Gadget 360 staff was unable to confirm the nature of this feature after updating to the specified version.
Apart from this, the technical team also updated Gemini Live with support for Hindi and eight regional languages at the Google India 2024 event, when the AI reviews in four regional languages, apart from Hindi and English, are available.
