Snapchat Rolls Out Footsteps Feature for iOS That Lets Users Track Explored Locations

Snapchat has started rolling out a new feature to iOS users that allows them to track all the places they’ve visited and posted photos. The feature, called Footsteps, only works when Ghost Mode is disabled on Snapchat for iPhone. In addition to calculating the new places that the user will visit, he can also use the stored memories to talk about previous visits. In fact, the instant messaging platform announced several major updates at the Snap Partner Summit 2024, including the introduction of the Gemini Large Language Model (LLM) in AI and the fifth generation of Snap Glasses.

Footsteps on Snapchat

According to Snapchat, Footsteps will allow iOS users to track all the places they’ve taken on Maps. Using this feature for the first time, the platform uses Memories to create the first features. However, it later uses location data to track steps.

The Footsteps feature was previously only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, but has been rolled out widely to all iOS users. This information is private and only available to the account holder. According to Snapchat, Footsteps only works when Ghost Mode is turned off — it basically hides your location from the map, (Snapchat Rolls).

Users can also delete the Footer log if they don’t want to use this feature. Gadget 360 staff was able to confirm the availability of this feature after Snapchat for iOS was updated to version 13.9.0.40.

Other Snapchat Features

At Snap Summit 2024, the instant messaging platform announced a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini LLM with My AI – its intelligent chatbot. In addition to computer vision capabilities, it also enhances text, audio, image, video and code processing capabilities.

It also introduced the Snap AI Video feature, which can generate AI videos from text messages, although this feature is only available to developers on the platform. Another addition is a new AI lens that allows users to appear on their own. Snapchat has also brought AI lenses and captioning features to Snapchat Memories.
