YouTube Reportedly Rolling Out ‘Pause Ads’ Widely After Strong Advertiser Response

YouTube is said to be offering ad breaks for both users and advertisers. Last year, the video streaming service first announced plans to include these ads that appear while a video is waiting. Many internet users have reported seeing these posts and expressed concern over this move. A pop-up message will appear, which can be a still image or a short video. YouTube reportedly moved forward with plans to roll out these ads after seeing strong backlash from advertisers and users.

It has been reported that YouTube is mostly suspending ads

Ad breaks, which are ads that appear while a video is waiting, are visible to users. Many have taken to social media platforms such as Reddit and Twitter to report on the latest developments in video streaming.

These ads are different from the ads that YouTube shows at the beginning and between videos. These are displayed whenever the user pauses the video. And unlike full video ads, these are pop-up ads that only take up a portion of the screen. Based on examples seen by Gadgets 360 staff on social media, these ads will appear on the right side of the video interface on the website and in the chat section of the mobile app.

Also, unlike the non-skippable ads on the site installed in 2023, these ads can be removed by pressing the “X” icon on the right top of the panel. However, the shocking nature of these announcements is not unexpected.

YouTube’s director of communications, Uluwa Fallodon, told The Verge that the company decided to end public advertising after seeing “strong audiences and a strong response of the spectators.”

The company said the ad breaks are designed to improve the user experience. However, it was not mentioned if the ads were less effective after running these pop-up ads.

Although showing temporary ads is not popular among users, this is not the first exchange platform to implement this. A number of premium platforms like Disney+ Hotstar, JioCinema and Zee5 feature ads at free tiers and lower subscription tiers.
