ChatGPT on WhatsApp has undergone a few new enhancements. OpenAI launched an official phone number for ChatGPT in December 2024, enabling individuals to save it on WhatsApp for direct access to the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot within the instant messaging application. Initially, it only allowed text input, but now the San Francisco-based AI company has broadened the service to accommodate images and audio messages as input as well. This new feature has been implemented worldwide, and users are expected to try it out.
ChatGPT on WhatsApp Receives New Enhancements
First identified by Android Authority, the ChatGPT service on WhatsApp will now accept image and voice messages as input. This indicates that users can now transmit an image or an audio note to the AI’s chat, and it will provide a response. However, the chatbot will only reply with text messages, and currently, neither image generation nor two-way voice interaction is available.
With the image processing feature, users can now pose questions to ChatGPT regarding any images, or even ask it to evaluate their memes. By utilizing computer vision, the AI will be capable of interpreting the visual data and addressing the inquiry. Please note, this feature will transmit the image to OpenAI’s servers for processing, so it is advisable to refrain from sending images that contain personal information or sensitive content.
Likewise, with the introduction of voice messages, users will no longer need to type their questions, particularly when dealing with lengthy and wordy prompts. The chatbot can now interpret voice messages and respond to them through text outputs.
As per the report from Android Authority, OpenAI is also working on allowing users to sign into their ChatGPT accounts on WhatsApp. Nevertheless, it remains unknown if this will provide any additional advantages to users. They will be capable of synchronizing these conversations with the ChatGPT app or the web client, as long as they have logged into the same account.
In December, OpenAI disclosed the new phone number for ChatGPT, which is +1-800-242-8478. Users around the globe can save the number to their device’s contacts and search for it on WhatsApp to interact with the chatbot. Furthermore, those living in Canada and the US can also call the number from their smartphones or feature phones to directly engage with the chatbot. Importantly, the company did not disclose which AI model is being utilized for this service.
