YouTube on Friday revealed the growth of Communities to more creators. This function was initially disclosed at the Made by YouTube 2024 event as a specific area for enhancing interaction between creators and followers. It provides the capability to engage with the channel owner by posting in a community, while other users can also reply and respond to these posts. With YouTube Communities, the video streaming service aims to establish itself as the key platform for interaction between creators and followers, removing the necessity of using Discord, Reddit, and other social media platforms.
YouTube Communities Expands
In a blog post, YouTube shared that it is broadening the Communities feature after receiving favorable feedback from a select group of creators. According to the video streaming service, it is a forum-like dedicated area on channels designed for creators and their followers to cultivate relationships. Both can create and share posts, take part in discussions, and provide updates. Nevertheless, all of the previously mentioned features are presently restricted to YouTube’s mobile app.
While anyone can post, creators have access to moderation tools in Communities which grant them authority over who is permitted to post. The new Community Hub tool allows them to oversee the space for unsuitable content. As part of the expansion, YouTube is changing the name of the Community tab to Posts, although it will keep offering the same functions as before.
The feature will not be turned on by default, meaning that creators will have to activate it on their own. YouTube mentions it is launching Communities on an invitation basis, and they will get notifications via email along with a banner shown on their channel pages on the mobile app.
