Google Meet is receiving a few new features, as announced by the company on Tuesday. The first feature is limited to Google Workspace enterprise and business accounts, enhancing the current note-taking functionality in Gemini. Users will now have access to a checklist of “next steps” recommendations from the AI, derived from the discussions during the meeting to assist the team in organizing follow-up tasks. The second feature is accessible to all users and will allow any participants to view the live captions from the previous 30 minutes.
Google Meet Is Getting New Features
In a blog post, the Mountain View-based tech giant elaborated on the “next steps” feature. In August 2024, the company initially launched the “take notes for me” feature in Google Meet. It is an artificial intelligence (AI) function that employs voice-to-text technology to transcribe the discussions in a meeting and summarize them in organized paragraphs. The summary is subsequently added to a Google Doc file and distributed to all attendees.
This Gemini feature is now being enhanced. Gemini will now create a list of the next steps that can be taken based on the discussions during the meeting. Furthermore, the AI will also assign due dates and allocate them to the participants best suited for the task. This information will be displayed at the bottom of the summary in the same Google Doc.
Google indicated users will have the ability to review and modify these tasks and follow-ups as necessary to remove an item, adjust the due date, or change the assigned individual. The post emphasized that the AI-driven feature can assist in aligning the participants on what actions to take post-meeting.
This feature is being rolled out to Business and Enterprise subscribers of Google Workspace. Additionally, it is also accessible to anyone who has previously purchased the Gemini Enterprise or “AI Meetings and Messaging” add-ons.
The company is also launching another feature for Google Meet. By updating the live captions and translated captions functionality, users will now be able to scroll through the captions to review the last 30 minutes of discussions. Previously, users could only view the captions for what was being spoken in real-time.
