A new feature is being developed by Google Drive for Android devices, which is expected to enhance security when using the app, as per a report. It is rumored to have been found while examining the APK of the app on the Android platform. The Privacy Screen feature was introduced on the iOS version of the cloud storage app in 2020 and is now said to be making its debut on the Android version as well.
Enable the privacy screen feature on Google Drive for Android
Android Authority provided a report detailing the upcoming Privacy Screen feature currently under development. According to reports, references to the feature were found coded within the Google Drive for Android app version 2-24-467-3 during an APK teardown. It is believed to function similarly to its iOS equivalent, needing authentication prior to allowing the user entry to the application.
Nevertheless, there are a couple of considerations that align with the iOS version of the application. The code references indicate that even after activation, the shared data could still be accessible through the internet browser of different applications. Additionally, it should be noted that the Privacy Screen feature might not offer full protection for notifications and other system functions.
The feature on Google Drive for iOS has a few additional restrictions concerning security, including documents shared with the Files app, images shared with the Photos app, specific Siri features, and the consequences of uninstalling the app.

Google has recently introduced an upgraded Drive file picker for Android devices. According to the company, users will have a smoother experience accessing recently viewed items on Google Drive. Moreover, it will enable them to easily access items shared across drives, My Drive, and other storage sites.
The latest update has already been deployed to Rapid Release domains and will be introduced to Scheduled Release domains beginning on December 2.
