Google Reportedly Working On a Content Filter Feature for Gemini

Google is said to be developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) function for its internal chatbot Gemini. According to the report, this function was discovered in the most recent beta release of the Google app for Android and is termed Content filters. As implied by its title, this function is thought to give users detailed control over undesirable or damaging content produced by the AI chatbot. Nevertheless, since it is reported that this feature is not available to the public or operational, its exact functionality remains uncertain.

Gemini May Get a Content Filter Feature

Per an Android Authority article, the tech giant located in Mountain View is creating a content moderation tool for Gemini. Evidence of this feature was identified by the publication in the beta version 15. 51. 24. sa. arm64 of the Google app for Android. Importantly, the feature is not presented to the public yet, meaning beta testers will not have the opportunity to experiment with it at this time.

The publication also provided a screenshot depicting the feature. According to the screenshot, this new feature can be found on the Gemini Settings page, nestled between the Screen context and Manage your Advanced subscription options. The feature is identified as Content filters.

Below the feature’s label, the screenshot features a concise description which states, “Use filters to control the responses you see. ” Little else is known about this feature as it is not yet enabled on the server side. It is reported that clicking on the Gemini feature redirects users to a URL on Google’s Gemini webpage. However, this site is currently inactive, and the publication could not uncover further information.

Nonetheless, based on this information, it is likely that the feature serves as a tool for users to gain more control over the types of responses they wish to receive. It might provide filters similar to the parental controls found on devices and websites that enable users to only view safe content.

Alternatively, the feature might be extensive, allowing users to blacklist specific websites, prohibit entire topics, and anchor the responses against established verifiers. A less probable scenario is that this setting permits users to customize Gemini’s responses by writing style and tone for all forthcoming interactions. However, these ideas are merely conjectures, and no definitive conclusions can be drawn until Google releases an official statement regarding the feature.
