Instagram AI Feature That Lets Users Generate Profile Pictures Spotted in Development

Instagram might be in the process of developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that enables users to create profile pictures. A recent leak suggests that the social media platform owned by Meta is currently experimenting with a new feature that enables users to generate fresh profile pictures through the use of AI models. There isn’t much information available about the feature currently, but it’s been said that comparable features are in the works for Facebook and WhatsApp. Recently, Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, announced the discontinuation of automatic feed refreshing. This feature used to be triggered when the app was opened after a certain period of time.

Instagram is in the process of developing a feature that will generate profile pictures using AI technology.
Developer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered indications of this functionality within the Instagram application, and kindly provided insights about it in a Threads post. He discovered a new menu option on Instagram while updating his profile picture, which allows him to create an AI profile picture. The developer also shared a screenshot of the menu.

It’s challenging to predict precisely how this feature will function since it is currently in development, but it is expected to be driven by one of Meta’s powerful Llama large language models (LLMs). The function offers users two options: creating an AI image from the ground up with text-based cues, or transforming current profile pictures into various styles through AI technology.

This won’t be the initial AI feature making its way to Instagram. The platform owned by Meta currently provides access to Meta AI, its conversational chatbot, both individually and in group chats. Additionally, the company introduced an AI-based feature for rephrasing direct messages, giving users the ability to modify the wording and tone of their messages sent to other users.

Meta has recently announced that they are testing an AI-powered facial recognition technology to identify fraudulent advertisements on Facebook and Instagram. The feature is designed to identify advertisements that deceptively feature public figures in order to attract users, then thwart them. It also disclosed its intentions to utilize the technology for confirming users through video selfies, in order to assist them in regaining access to their compromised accounts. Both of these features are not widely accessible currently.
