Meta to Reportedly Launch a Standalone Meta AI App to Take On OpenAI and Google

Meta is said to be planning to introduce its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot as an independent application. The company presently provides Meta AI within its social media platforms, which include Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. It is also accessible as a web client; however, the social media behemoth does not present the platform as a mobile or desktop application. According to the report, the company now aims to expand the reach of its AI assistant and develop a highly personalized experience for users to rival major contenders in the field, like OpenAI and Google.

Meta AI Standalone App Reportedly In the Works

A CNBC report suggested that the tech giant intends to roll out Meta AI as a distinct app, in addition to its current social media platforms. Referencing unnamed sources familiar with the situation, the report indicated that the app might be launched in the second quarter of the year, which falls between April and June.

The initiative to launch a standalone Meta AI app is reportedly part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s goal to establish the company as a leader in the AI sector by the end of 2025. The corporation is believed to consider OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini as significant rivals, both of which are offered as standalone applications.

In addition to this, the company is reportedly also looking to trial a premium version of Meta AI that will provide additional features. This version is said to be available to paid subscribers, akin to the monetization strategies used by OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. Susan Li, the Chief Financial Officer at Meta, reportedly informed analysts that the firm is striving to create a “great consumer experience” with the AI assistant earlier this year. Furthermore, Li reportedly emphasized “clear monetization opportunities” with Meta AI through paid recommendations.

Zuckerberg reportedly conveyed the ambition to create Meta AI as a “highly intelligent and personalized AI assistant” that would reach over one billion users during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call in January. According to a different report, he also stated that the tech giant would invest up to $65 billion (approximately Rs. 5,61,908 crore) in AI initiatives by 2025. This amount is said to encompass a new data center and the enhancement of AI teams.
