Microsoft Copilot App for macOS Released; iPhone and iPad Apps Get Updates

Microsoft ultimately introduced its Copilot application for macOS on Thursday. The Redmond-based technology firm had earlier launched the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot application for iOS and iPadOS, and now Mac users will also have the ability to use the application natively. Just like OpenAI’s ChatGPT application for Mac, users can activate Microsoft’s AI chatbot through a shortcut command. Along with the Mac application, the Windows manufacturer has also updated the Copilot application for iPhone and iPad devices, incorporating several new features.

Copilot Application for macOS Introduced

In a message on X (previously referred to as Twitter), the official account of Microsoft Copilot declared the launch of the macOS application. The AI-driven application is available for free download but necessitates macOS 14 or higher and a Mac device equipped with Apple’s M1 chipset or more recent. The application is currently accessible in Canada, the UK, and the US, with plans for expansion into other regions anticipated in the upcoming weeks, according to The Verge.

The Copilot application is presently displayed on the Mac Store. The application page emphasizes that macOS users will benefit from features like dark mode, shortcut command for quick access, the Think Deeper mode, and the capability to create images. The macOS application also incorporates computer vision and takes images as input.

Copilot for Mac additionally provides standard AI chatbot functionalities. Users can create emails and essays, summarize lengthy text passages, translate text, search for answers to questions from the Internet, and interact with users. It further includes multimodal functionalities such as image generation, inline editing, storyboard creation, and an option to upload files. Importantly, the application has a size of 18MB.

Microsoft has also enhanced the Copilot application for iOS and iPadOS with added functionalities. Users will now have the ability to sign into Copilot using an Apple account when on an iPhone or iPad. They will also be able to upload text or PDF documents and inquire about them. The AI chatbot is also able to summarize the content. According to The Verge, the company is also intending to introduce the document summarization feature to the macOS application shortly.
