Microsoft Previews Real-Time Translation in Live Captions for AMD and Intel Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft is evaluating a real-time Translation feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) in Live Captions for Copilot+ PCs that use AMD and Intel chipsets. Announced on Wednesday, this new functionality is currently being showcased with the latest Windows 11 Insider preview build and is available through the Dev Channel. Furthermore, the tech company is also enhancing the real-time translation capability for Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. Additionally, the organization has implemented several bug fixes for the Recall feature, which was previously introduced in preview earlier this year.

Microsoft Testing Real-Time Translation in Live Captions

In a blog post regarding Windows, the tech company revealed that the new AI capability is being rolled out with the Windows 11 Insider preview build 26120. 2705 (KB5050636) to the Dev Channel. Microsoft had previously introduced real-time translation in Live Captions for Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, but it had not been available for devices using AMD and Intel chipsets. With this update, certain users will now have the chance to test the feature and provide feedback to the company.

Real-time translations will enable users to convert audio from over 44 languages into English. The translated audio will appear at the lower part of the screen as subtitles. This feature can facilitate real-time translation during video calls, recordings, and streamed content. It utilizes Microsoft’s Copilot along with native large language models.

Importantly, to utilize the feature, users must configure their device language to English. Though the feature is capable of translating audio from numerous languages, it does not support translation from English into other languages.

Improvements are also being made to the feature for the Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. The real-time translation feature will now have the capability to translate audio into the Chinese (Simplified) language.

Moreover, the Recall feature is receiving enhancements. Users can turn the feature on or off through “Turn Windows feature on or off. ” Microsoft also noted that if users encounter a message stating “Make sure Recall is saving snapshots” while the Settings page for Recall indicates that snapshot saving is enabled, restarting the device will fix the problem.
