OpenAI Might Have Briefly Added New Custom Instruction Options to ChatGPT

OpenAI may have introduced several new options to its Custom Instructions feature for ChatGPT on Thursday. Numerous users shared screenshots of these fresh options in custom instructions, which enable users to further customize the responses generated by ChatGPT. Included among these new options are fields to insert the user’s nickname, profession, and personality traits. However, it seems these new options were subsequently removed from the chatbot. There is speculation that OpenAI might have activated this feature prematurely before it was fully ready to be implemented.

ChatGPT Briefly Allowed Users to Add Nicknames, Professions and More

A number of users on X (previously known as Twitter) communicated about the new capability introduced to ChatGPT. Essentially, this is an enhancement of an existing feature referred to as Custom Instruction. According to the screenshots shared by these users, the AI company incorporated new customization fields into the tool, providing users with finer control over how ChatGPT formulates responses.

Custom instructions serve as grounding tools that remove the necessity of inputting the same prompt repeatedly. For example, if a user prefers responses that are formal and concise with an analytical tone, they can input this preference into the custom instructions menu to ensure the chatbot’s replies conform to these parameters whenever a query is posed.

Up to this point, these instructions could be entered at a single location as a text prompt. However, based on the screenshots posted by users on X, it seems that the chatbot introduced new options that enabled them to gain better control over the responses crafted by ChatGPT.

Users have the ability to inform the AI chatbot of a nickname for themselves and have it remember their profession. Moreover, users can also add various personality traits to ChatGPT, including “witty”, “opinionated”, and “Gen Z”.

It remains uncertain how these traits influence the chatbot’s responses since Gadgets 360 staff were unable to verify the existence of the feature, and it was not available on the chatbot at the time of this publication. Users on X additionally remarked that the feature abruptly disappeared after some time. As reported by TechCrunch, it’s possible that OpenAI inadvertently released the feature prior to its readiness. The timeline for the official rollout of the feature is still unclear.
