WhatsApp has begun introducing a new feature to beta testers that might facilitate the tracking of messages received on the app. The reminders feature that alerts users about missed status updates has been enhanced to include reminders for messages, in the most recent beta version of the app for Android. This feature is structured so that WhatsApp will only notify users regarding updates and messages from prioritized contacts, as reported by a feature tracker.
WhatsApp Message Reminders Depend on Internal Algorithm
Following the update to WhatsApp beta for Android 2. 24. 25. 29 (via feature tracker WABetaInfo), the description for the feature found under Settings > Notifications > Reminders has been revised to indicate that the app will offer occasional reminders for messages, alongside status updates. Gadgets 360 was unable to access the feature, even after updating to the latest beta version, which implies that it is gradually rolling out to testers.
Once the feature is enabled, users will receive notifications regarding messages that they may have missed in the app. WhatsApp has not yet shared any details about how the feature operates or whether it will provide reminders for unseen messages and status updates from all contacts.
As per the feature tracker, the Reminders feature will notify users about unseen messages from specific contacts, which will be determined based on interactions within the app. The reminders will allegedly rely on an algorithm that functions on the user’s device, meaning a new installation of WhatsApp will recreate the contact list based on the user’s previous interactions.
It seems that the feature was created to dispatch reminders for selected conversations to avoid overwhelming users with status updates and messages from every one of their contacts. This feature is anticipated to reach more beta testers in the upcoming days and may ultimately be made available to the entire WhatsApp user base at a later time.
