Elon Musk-owned microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) is said to be developing a feature that will allow users to remove links from replies to their posts, according to a social media researcher.. This is supposed to reduce spam links in replies to messages on the platform, allowing links to be blocked in the first place. Most notably, X was recently reported to be working on a “dislike” button for the iOS app that would allow users to leave responses.
Disable Links in X Response
Discovered by Nima Owji (@nima_owji), an independent application researcher with expertise in discovering yet-to-be-released X features. In a post on the platform, Owji revealed that X can allow users to disable links in replies with a tick. A screenshot shared by the user suggests that it will appear under the Only Accounts You Mention banner.
Responding to the post cited later, X security researcher Christopher Stanley confirmed its authenticity. “My team built it,” Stanley wrote, X Said to Be Developing Feature.
This is just one of the features X is said to be developing as it aims to fulfill Elon Musk’s vision of becoming an “everything app” that can do everything from messaging to payments, like China’s WeChat. The platform changed its name from Twitter to X last year, replacing the iconic “Larry the Bird” logo with a simple X.
Previously announced underdeveloped X features include in-app currency that creators can earn on the platform, an extension of X’s existing pitching features. However, it has not yet reached the platform.
Hidden Likes tab
In addition to rolling out the ability to disable reply links, X also made a big change last year when it removed the Likes tab from the profile, albeit only for X Premium subscribers. Earlier this year, X engineer Haofei announced that the tab would soon be hidden from everyone so people wouldn’t feel discouraged if they liked certain content. After the change, only the author knows when someone liked his publication.
